Nick was born at Stamford, Connecticut, and grew up there with his mother, Lenka Pichlíková-Burke, his father, Marcus Bruce Burke, and his older brother, Marcus K. Francis Burke. Nick's godfather, John Archibald, shared the duplex house they lived in when first coming to Stamford, and he became an honorary part of the family. Nick was a bright-eyed, loving child who was fascinated by music and loved to laugh and to make others laugh. From a young age, Nick played sports: ice hockey, and then soccer (goalie) on local and travel teams until he was a teenager. Nick followed his brother to Toquam Magnet Elementary School and Dolan Middle School. He was confirmed at Saint John’s Lutheran Church, volunteered at the Stamford Food Bank, and was a summer counselor at the Seton Boy Scout Camp in Greenwich. Nick and his brother performed with their mother in professional performances at Stamford Theatre Works and other locations. He graduated from Stamford High School in 2011, where he was a standout Lacrosse defenseman, and went on to major in history and minor in business at Emmanuel College in Boston, graduating in 2015. His grasp of history was extraordinary and astonished his family, friends, and colleagues.
The summer between his junior and senior years, Nick got his real estate license, and became a successful realtor, leasing manager, and the person responsible for training sessions at Boardwalk Properties in Allston and Boston. One of his clients posted the following: , “Nick puts all the effort he can in. He treats all of his clients like family and works very hard to ensure that you get the best property possible. ... I have been constantly treated in an incredibly professional manner.” Numerous colleagues have recounted the effect of his friendship, smiles and humor, generosity, and ability to inspire. As a friend said, “he had an insatiable hunger not only for the betterment of himself but for others around him.”
Nick is buried in the graveyard of the First Congregational Church of Greenwich, at 108 Sound Beach Avenue in Old Greenwich, Connecticut, in the southeast corner just outside the Columbarium. A memorial bench donated by the Cagle Family faces his grave.
A Memorial Scholarship Fund was set up in memory of Nick at Emmanuel College, Boston. Donations to this fund can be made at https://alumni.emmanuel.edu/InMemory/NicholasBurke
Outside of his Stamford family, Nick had relatives scattered over Europe and the United States. He enjoyed traveling and visiting his grandmother, Anna Hodková, and his aunt and godmother, Zuzana Hodková, in the Czech Republic. He also enjoyed being with his cousins, Tereza Töpferová, who lives in Portland with her children, and her sister, Marta Töpferová, who used to live in New York but now lives in Berlin and the Czech Republic. He visited his grandfather, Marcus Roberts Burke, and his aunt Avery Roberts Dye in Florida, along with his cousins Nathan Miller, Julianne Roberts, and Morgan Roberts. Nick also enjoyed visiting his aunt Julie Page Burke and cousins Robert Howard and Heather Burke in Florida and Lexington, Kentucky. In addition, Nick often traveled with his family to California, the Bahamas, Venice Italy, the Czech Republic and Slovenia (with his family and his friends, Ondra and Štěpán, and their parents Bára and Pavel Kulhánek), Germany, and Austria. Nick visited Spain several times, where his father often worked, and one of his last trips was to Madrid and Barcelona. He and his girlfriend, Mindy Tran, also visited at many locations in the Boston area and New England.
Nick left behind many friends and hundreds of people whose lives he touched, among them Blazej Pulawski, Marcus DiNucci, Kevin Lochard, Conner Davis, Andrew Bishop, Malcolm Chalmers, Lauren Cagle and the Cagle family, Dan Massa, Donnacha O’Dwyer, Maxx Vizioli, and many others in Stamford. In addition to Mindy, his many Boston friends included Nick Ledan, Jerry Nappa, Alex Hoslet, Mike Vermes, Kenny Ayo, Ian Manning, Cam MiKucki, and colleagues Mike Swan and Cody Quach, among others at Boardwalk Properties. The remembrances of these and additional friends will be posted below.
HERE ARE SOME OF THE MANY COMMENTS THAT HAVE COME IN AS NICK'S FRIENDS REMEMBER HIM.
Anna died on January 12, 2024, at nearly the age of 96. Nick visited her in Prague on numerous occasions, and she came to the United States several times. They were extremely close.

Often Anna would come in the summer. Here Nick is between his mother, Lenka, and grandmother Anna. Brother Francis is on the right. They are celebrating Lenka's birthday.
Nick with his brother Francis, their Grandmother Anna, their Aunt Zuzana, and their mom, Lenka, on the banks of the Vltava River, with the buildings of Old Town, Prague, behind them. Nick loved the beautiful city with its many sights, Christmas Fair in the Old Town Square, and restaurants.
In the summer, the family would often enjoy the parks of the city -- Grandmother Anna lived beside one of the most beautiful, in the neighborhood of Smichov. Nick and his brother Francis had scooters and came to love the city.
Anna came to the United States on several occasions. Her husband, Dr. Karel Pichlik came as well with her on one trip. Here Nick and Francis are sitting on our front porch in Stamford with their mom and grandmother.
